Met a startup (SoundCloud) that had started in Stockholm and, being focussed on the DJ scene, decided between London or Berlin. Super cheap flat and office rent meant their operation costs were far lower and they could survive longer so settled (and prospered?) in Berlin. Great city and everything works.

Re: Consider Berlin for European Expansion

Didn't realize you were here then - I was in Munich at the time.

Also forgot to mention that there are a bunch of universities and virtually no other industry competing for employees.

Re: Consider Berlin for European Expansion

It would easily be the second place I'd set up an office. I lived there in 1990-1991 when one could live on 300 euro a month, and now it's got an array of very interesting culture workers, from all over the world. A city where, even in 1991, if you were told someone was from Georgia, you wouldn't know which one. And one of my favorite book people, Jessa Crispin of Bookslut, moved there 2 months ago.

Re: Consider Berlin for European Expansion

We love our Berlin office. One of our best international offices, for sure!
